Huñuy in Quechua roughly translates to “gathering back, to bring back, or to re-member.” My favorite concept behind this word comes from the Qanchis Ylla, 7 Rays of the Sun, Rainbow lineage of Chincero. According to Medicine Man Puma Fredy Quispe Singona, of the Rainbow lineage, “our sacred nature is to belong to wellness.” Huñuy allows us to practice bringing wellness back to ourselves. Learn to unlock some of the secret lessons Huñuy has to offer, without leaving your couch.
Nature is wellness
There is a really beautiful idea that our nature is wellness. In spite of all the things conspiring against us in today’s modern world, wellness is instinctive. There is hope and comfort in the belief that wellness is ours to reclaim through choice. Granted, this does not take into account the problems with things like food deserts and insecurity, systemic racism and oppression. However, we still have the power of choice. In the literal application of Huñuy hands-on healing practices, we call for our wellness to come back to us. The healing tradition energetically flushes out pain, negative thoughts and energy, through a gathering touch technique, with a trained practitioner. Once this is done, the body is recharged with “Munay,” Quechua for unconditional love. Even though not everyone has access to this training or practice, you can still apply the spirit of Huñuy to your life.
Unlock the spirit of Huñuy at home
If you imagine calling back your wellness to you, there are many forms it can take. It could take the form of repairing broken relationships. It could look like making nourishing meals at home that enrich and fuel your body with the best possible nutrients. Huñuy could even look like deep breathing to ease the negative thoughts and comfort the nervous system. There are numerous ways we can call back our wellness, and it’s up to us to determine what that looks like. What small shifts would encourage healing or feeling better in your body? There is so much freedom and power in knowing that we have many of the tools to heal ourselves, within. For more inspiration on awakening your healer within, I highly recommend the book “You are the Medicine,” by writer Asha Frost.
Heal yourself, heal the Earth
Many Andean traditions believe that by healing yourself, you are healing Mother Earth, or sacred Pachamama. In fact, it’s not just Incan tradition that believes this. Many traditions including Mayan and Native American traditions subscribe to this, as well. Even in today’s cynical meme culture, we see evidence of this with sayings like “hurt people, hurt people.” This concept has simply been updated for a new era. When we prioritize our own self care, we are able to extend that care and compassion to others. Unlock the message and spirit of Huñay to further your own healing journey.
